High Speed Technology range

01/08/2008

All of SOURIAU’s connectors for railway applications are now available in Ethernet versions. They are all certified according to the NF F 61-030 railway rolling stock standard.

Driven by new technologies, the Ethernet protocol is increasingly widespread in railway applications. As well as closed-circuit information distribution or Wi-Fi, Ethernet also has its place on board trains in safety-related applications (sensors, indicators). It is also integrated into infrastructures for CCTV, traffic management and interoperability. Eventually all of the railway network and the rolling stock will be able to incorporate Ethernet, offering real-time information and increased functionality providing greater comfort, safety and reliability for users and operators. The VGE1, 838, FER1, UTO and other ranges from SOURIAU, which have proved themselves in tramways, light rail transit, regional trains, high-speed trains and signalling systems, are now fitted with RJ45, quadrax and fibre-optic contacts in order to transmit data at high speeds, from 100 Mbps to 10 Gbps, according to the IEC 11 801 Ethernet standard.
This development of the Souriau ranges allows not only new systems to be fitted with connections conforming to railway standards, but also existing installations to be upgraded with low maintenance costs. For example, a standard VGE1 connector (100 Mbps) can be replaced by a Quadrax VGE1 (1 Gbps), using the same fastening points. The new High Speed Technology range will be presented at the Innotrans show in Berlin, from 23 to 26 September 2008.
